Calgary, AB - In front of 12,340 fans, the Calgary Roughnecks fell 15-14 to the Rochester Knighthawks Saturday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome. The Fan Appreciation Night brought to you by Investors Group saw the largest home crowd since 2008.
Former Knighthawk Shawn Evans, acquired by the Roughnecks in 2011, factored in on all first half scoring to finish the game with three goals and seven assists for 10 points. Evans, who now leads the league with 102 points, is three points shy of setting a franchise record for most points in a single season at 105. Curtis Dickson (2g, 5a), Jeff Shattler (4g, 2a), Dane Dobbie (3g) and Joe Resetarits (4a) each had strong performances for Calgary, while Travis Cornwall (1g, 1a) and Geoff Snider (1g) rounded out the scoring.
Dan Dawson led the way for the Knighthawks with three goals and eight assists, while Cody Jamieson (3g, 6a) tallied nine points. Knighthawks forwards Cory Vitarelli (3g, 3a), Mike Accursi (2g, 3a) and Johnny Powless (2g, 3a) along transition player Joe Walters (4a) each had quality efforts for Rochester. Craig Point and Joel McCready also scored in the win.
Calgary goaltender Mike Poulin stopped 33 of the 48 shots he faced as the Roughnecks outshot the Knighthawks 58-48.
The Roughnecks (8-7) wrap up the regular season against the Edmonton Rush (8-6) on Saturday, April 20, playing the final match-up in the four-game Homes by Avi Battle of Alberta series. Game time is 7 p.m. at Rexall Place in Edmonton (Sportsnet ONE).
