Reading, PA: Led by another solid performance in net by Connor Knapp, the Greenville Road Warriors toppled the defending Kelly Cup Champion Reading Royals by a score of 3-1.

Greenville and Reading split scoring chances in the first but each goaltender was solid, rejecting every opportunity. The Road Warriors' penalty kill worked on two different occasions and killed each Royals' opportunity.

The Road Warriors began the second period with a power play that carried over from the previous period but were not able to convert. The team was given another power play a few minutes later. The opportunity was converted by Reading. T.J. Syner broke into the Greenville zone with speed and fed Brett Flemming in the slot for his first goal of the year. The Road Warriors were given another power play ten minutes later. Bretton Stamler saw Jordie Johnston open for a one-timer goal. Johnston scored his third of the year. Michael Kantor also assisted on the goal.

The Road Warriors grabbed the lead just 39 seconds into the third period. A quick shot from the faceoff circle off the stick of Brandon Hynes beat Reading goalie Riley Gill and gave Greenville the 2-1 lead. The Road Warriors stellar penalty kill continued in the third period as the team killed off three separate Royals man advantages, including a hooking minor with less than five minutes left. Jordie Johnston iced the game with an empty net goal in the final minute of the period, to give the Road Warriors the 3-1 win.

Knapp took the win for the Road Warriors. The Buffalo Sabres prospect stopped 32 of 33 shots and earned first star honors. Gill took the loss for Reading, stopping 20 of 22 shots. The Road Warriors continue their tour of the Atlantic Division on Friday when they visit Elmira Jackals.
