Harrisburg Senators News Release
Harrisburg, PA - Flowers, candy and romantic dinners were all the rage on Valentines Day, but that wasn't all you'd find in Harrisburg. If you were anywhere near the Harrisburg Mall on February 14, you might have thought a baseball game was happening. Over 50 youngsters were singing Take Me Out to the Ballgame in hopes of becoming one of the two 2009 Harrisburg Senators Klubhouse Kids. The judging was tough as there were many great candidates, which made the judges (Chuck Rhodes of abc27, Jason Bristol of CBS21, John Beaston of Wink104, and the 2008 Klubhouse Kids Dominick Haley and Becca Zematis) job even harder, but when all was said and done two youngsters emerged as the new Klubhouse Kids. The Senators are proud to announce that Maya Wasileski and Darihus Cotta will represent them this year as the 2009 Klubhouse Kids.
The turnout made the event a great success and really, no one was a loser. All 51 runner-ups have been invited to sing Take Me Out to the Ballgame during the seventh inning stretch of the home opener on April 16. There were kids in full Senators uniforms; a youngster with a keyboard; kids with plenty of props; and duets. The winners had unique acts as well as Maya encouraged the crowd to join in and sing with her and Darihus had a poster and encouraged everyone before he sang to cheer for the Senators.
Maya is nine years old and hails from Camp Hill and Darihus is 10 years old and is from Steelton. Both kids love school and participate in many extra-curricular activities. They both can't wait to meet the 2009 Senators and to be a part of the "team" this season. Along with meeting the team, they'll also receive:
- A personalized Senators jersey
- Their own media pass which gives them free admission to every Senators Home Game this season
- They'll appear in a Senators TV commercial
- They'll have their own page in the Senators 2009 program
- They'll have the opportunity to throw out the first pitch during several home games this season
- They'll be a part of the pre-game video montage on the brand new state-of-the-art video board
- They'll head the 2009 Harrisburg Senators Kids Club
"We're looking forward to having Maya and Darihus at the ballpark this season to help cheer on the Senators," according to Senators Director of Community Relations Emily Winslow. "They're going to have a lot of fun getting everyone excited for Senators baseball this season."
The new Klubhouse Kids Maya and Darihus make their first public appearance during the Senators 2009 FanFest currently scheduled for April 4 at Commerce Bank Park. More information about the FanFest will follow over the next few days.
The exciting 2009 season opens on the road at Reading on April 9 with the home opener set for Thursday, April 16 at 7:00pm. Season tickets and group tickets are available by either phoning the Senators at 717-231-4444 or by going online to www.senatorsbaseball.com. Individual game tickets are set to go on sale Saturday, April 4.
