Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS -- Barrett Kleinknecht delivered a walkoff single in the bottom of the 12th to lead the Mississippi Braves to a 3-2 victory over the Mobile BayBears at Trustmark Park Thursday night. With the win, the M-Braves also tie the BayBears atop the Southern League South Division standings. The series continues Friday at 7:00 PM.
Mississippi (13-8, 52-38) scored three runs on eight hits while Mobile (13-8, 55-35) plated its two runs on six hits. Kyle Kubitza drew a two-out walk to start the Braves half of the 12th inning. Matt Kennelly followed with a single to left before Kubitza swiped third base. Kleinknecht then delivered the game-winning drive, his second walkoff of the season.
Jose Peraza went 3-for-5 on at the plate while Kennelly added two hits. Kleinknecht drove in two runs on the night. Andrew Robinson (1-0) worked the 12th and picked up the win for the Braves. He recorded one strikeout.
The two teams were scoreless through four frames.
Mobile took a 2-0 lead in the fifth. Sean Jamieson reached on a two-out single and Tom Belza reached on an error to get things started for the BayBears. A wild pitch allowed both runners to advance before Todd Glaesmann's two-run single to right.
The M-Braves responded in the bottom of the frame. Kubitza and Kennelly delivered back-to-back singles to put runners at the corners with one out. Kleinknecht followed with a sacrifice fly to cut the BayBears lead to 2-1. A wild pitch moved Kennelly to second before Mycal Jones' game-tying double to right field.
