Owen Sound Attack News Release
Owen Sound Attack overage forward Barret Kirwin announced today that he has committed to Dalhousie Tigers Men's Hockey program beginning in September 2021. Kirwin becomes the 55th Attack player to head east to compete in U Sports' Atlantic University Sport conference and fifth to get their stripes donning the black and gold for Dalhousie University.
"I am very excited for what the future holds" said Kirwin. "This is a great opportunity for me to grow as an athlete and a person. Making this decision now gives me a greater ability to focus on my final year in Owen Sound and see what that brings."
Since being acquired in a blockbuster trade in 2019, Kirwin has been a consummate leader for the Attack, helping the team transition as part of the teams youth movement. In a season and a half with the Attack, the native of Barrie, Ontario tallied 42 goals, and 39 assists, while registering a solid plus-17 rating. At the end of the 2018-19 season he earned himself co-playoff Most Valuable Player honours sharing the Butch Keeling Memorial Award with Mack Guzda and was named the Pat McReavy Award winner as the teams unsung hero.
"Barret will be a great asset to the Dalhousie hockey program" said Attack General Manager Dale DeGray. "He is a very smart player and confident in any and all situations. He has always been very well liked by his teammates and should fit in very well with his new teammates."
Kirwin will get to see some familiar faces on the east coast as he will be playing in a division with former teammate Matthew Philip and fellow Attack Alums Santino Centorame and Jacob Friend. Kirwin has applied to study in the Commerce program while at Dalhousie University.
