Kinney, Cavazos rejoin Springfield

The Springfield Cardinals made three roster moves on Sunday, adding relievers Josh Kinney, Andy Cavazos and Kevin Ool to the roster.

Kinney, who opened the season as the closer for Springfield, comes back to the team after spending the last two months in Triple-A Memphis. Kinney was 1-2 with a 7.36 ERA in 26 games for the Memphis Redbirds. Before being sent to Memphis, Kinney posted a 4-1 record with an ERA of 1.32, leading the Cards at the time of his promotion with 10 saves.

Andy Cavazos also rejoins the Springfield Cardinals, up from Palm Beach where he went 1-5 with a 3.41 ERA in 28 relief appearances in the Florida State League. Cavazos was 0-2 with a 5.23 ERA in eight games out of the Springfield bullpen earlier this year.

Left-hander Kevin Ool will be making his first career trip to Double-A. Ool was acquired from the Red Sox during Spring Training earlier this season in a trade that sent Mike Myers to Boston. The former 18th round pick of the 2003 draft started the 2005 season in the Midwest League for the Swing of the Quad Cities, posting a 9-2 record with a 2.15 ERA. Ool was then called up to Palm Beach, making 12 relief appearances, going 1-0 with a 1.37 ERA.

In order to add these three relievers to the roster, the Cardinals made multiple moves. Left-handed relievers Anthony Rawson and Oscar Alvarez were both sent to Palm Beach of the Florida State League. The Cardinals also released right-handed reliever Chris Mears.

Rawson was 4-3 with a 4.35 ERA in a team-leading 38 appearances. Alvarez was 5-2 in 27 appearances, with the fifth best ERA in the Texas League of 3.09. Right-hander Chrsi Mears, who suffered the defeat in last night's 8-5 loss to Wichita, was 0-2 in 13 appearances, posting a 5.25 ERA.

WEAVER TO START FOR TRAVS ON TUESDAY AT HAMMONS

Coming up on Tuesday night, the Arkansas Travelers will start right-hander Jered Weaver, a 2004 first-round draft pick by the Angels. Weaver, who captured the Golden Spikes Award in 2004 as College Baseball's top player, will make his Double-A debut at Hammons Field. A former star at Long Beach State and the younger brother of Dodgers hurler Jeff Weaver, Jered Weaver posted a 4-1 record in seven starts for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes of the California League.

The Cardinals open a new series against the Arkansas Travelers on Sunday afternoon at Hammons Field. Randy Leek (10-5) throws for the Cardinals, while Arkansas will counter with Kasey Olenberger (4-5). Sunday night is Reliable RV Rally Towel Giveaway with a Salute to America's Heroes. Sunday is also a Hiland Dairy Ice Cream Sunday as kids 15 and under will enjoy free ice cream before the game. Gates open at 5:10pm and game time is 6:10pm.
