Evansville Otters News Release

KALAMAZOO, MI – The Kalamazoo Kings tagged Otters' ace Tod Ewasko for four solo homeruns in beating the Evansville Otters, 7-2.

Evansville got on the board when in the top of the first inning, after a Juan Downing single, Tyson Arishenkoff hit his third homer of the season, giving the Otters the 2-0 edge.

The lead would be short lives as Chris Baird got things for the Kings hitting his first homerun of the season on a 3-2 pitch leading off the bottom of the first inning for Kalamazoo. The Kings would tie it later in the inning on a sacrifice fly by first baseman, Matt Kent.

Over the next four innings, the Kings would tag Ewasko three more times as Steve Hindman, Walt Simmons, Darren Uranga hit dingers to make it a 5-2 Kings edge. Kalamazoo would tack on two more in the fifth as Simmons, Kent, and Tim Frankhouse went single, single, double in succession to make it a 7-2 Kalamazoo lead.

The Kings cruised the rest of the way as Josh Beshears and two relievers combined to hold the Otters down for the rest of the ballgame. Beshears for the game went seven in his first pro start allowing eight hits, two runs, three walks, striking out four.

The Otters now travel to Richmond for a three-game series against the Roosters. Game time is set for 6:35 p.m. Andre Simpson (7-3) will start for Evansville. The Richmond starter has not yet been announced.
