SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- The Mississippi RiverKings (16-18-5) dropped their first loss to the Columbus Cottonmouths (20-13-3) this season 3-0 Saturday night at the Lander's Center.

The Cottonmouths first got on the board at the 4:02 mark of the first period of play. Chris Bailer beat Matthew Krahn to take a one-goal lead. But Columbus added to that lead 18:22 into the second period of play. Mark Thorburn found the back of the net when his wrist shot went right over the left shoulder of Krahn. The goal gave the Cottonmouths a two-goal lead they took into the second intermission.

Columbus added to their two-goal lead late in the final period of play. On the breakaway, Biff McNally beat Matthew Krahn to give the Cottonmouths a 3-0 lead. The RiverKings threw seven shots on net during the third period, but they could not beat Loewen as they fell to the Columbus Cottonmouths 3-0 for the first time this season.

Matthew Krahn (8-11-2) stopped 29 of 32 shots against in the loss. Andrew Loewen (13-4-0) turned aside all 22 shots against as he picked up his second shutout of the season.
