Knoxville Ice Bears News Release

Knoxville, TN - The Knoxville Ice Bears defeated Huntsville 6-4, in front of a sold out force filled crowd of 5,069.

Although the Ice Bears dominated the opening two minutes of play, Huntsville found itself a breakaway opportunity and capitalized as Leland Fidler found the back of the net at 2:11 of the period. Just over a minute later, Knoxville's fore check domination paid off with an even strength goal from Steve Wiedler, his second of the season. Eric Satim's pass deflected to the point and Wiedler sniped the shot past net minder Dan McWhinney to even the score.

Later in the period, Knoxville took the lead on a great effort by its newest addition, Zach Tatrn. Tatrn undressed the defender with a toe drag around him and hit Matt Pierce with a pinpoint for a one timer for Knoxville's second goal at 12:58.

Knoxville opened a high energy second period with a goal at 2:29 by Nate Peterson. Fernandez fired a pass to Mark Van Vliet at the point, who hit Peterson on the tape then walked it in and blasted it past McWhinney. Ice Bears captain David Segal contributed to the action with an unassisted goal at 10:19, which was Knoxville's fourth unanswered goal, and made the score 4-1. Huntsville answered with a goal of it's own at 10:54 scored by Chapen LeBlond.

After a battle for the puck behind the net, Satim passed out to Fernandez who found Dan Bremner in front of the net for an easy goal. Huntsville's Corey Fulton ended the period with a goal at the 19:55 to head into the second intermission with a score of 5-3.

The Havoc pulled within one at the 6:57 mark with a full strength goal by Nick Lazorko. Two penalties by Huntsville put the Ice Bears on a 5-3 power play and Jeremy Klaver was able to find the back of the net off a pass by Fernandez, who had four points on the night. This proved to be the final goal of the game as the Ice Bears won 6-4.
