Kings Ink Brust To Multi-Year Pact

MANCHESTER, NH – The Los Angeles Kings, the NHL affiliate of the Manchester Monarchs, on Wednesday agreed to terms on a three-year entry-level contract with goaltender Barry Brust. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not announced.

Brust, 20, played for both the Calgary Hitmen and the Spokane Chiefs, both of the Western Hockey League (WHL), during the 2003-04 season. He appeared in 25 regular season games with the Hitmen, posting a record of 12-8-3, a goals-against-average of 2.24, two shutouts and a save-percentage of .917. In addition, he appeared in seven playoff games with the Hitmen, posting a record of 3-4, a goals-against-average of 1.97, two shutouts and a save-percentage of 928. Brust began the season with Spokane, where in 27 games he had a record of 10-13-2, a goals-against-average of 2.99 and a save-percentage of .903. The Hitmen acquired Brust from the Chiefs in exchange for goalie Gerry Festa on January 8, 2004.

A native of Swan River, Manitoba, the 6-foot-3, 225-pound Brust was originally selected by the Minnesota Wild in the third-round (73rd overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. In 2001-02, he was named "WHL Goaltender of the Year" after setting Chiefs franchise records with a goals-against-average of 2.14 and a save-percentage of .922. Brust, a WHL West First Team All-Star in 2002, also posted an impressive goals-against-average of 2.04 during that season's playoff run.
