Manchester Monarchs News Release

EL SEGUNDO, CA. – The Los Angeles Kings have acquired forward Erik Rasmussen from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for forward Adam Mair and a fifth-round draft choice in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Kings Senior Vice President/General Manager Dave Taylor announced today.

Rasmussen, 25, played in 69 games last season with Buffalo and had 19 points (8-11=19), 34 penalty minutes and was second on the club in hits with 164. Originally drafted by the Sabres in the first-round (seventh overall) of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-3, 208-pound native of Minneapolis, MN, posted career bests in 2000-01, recording 12 goals, 19 assists and 31 points in a career-high 82 games. He also led the Sabres in hits that season with 207. In 281 career NHL games, all with the Sabres, Rasmussen has 79 points (33-46=79) and 179 penalty minutes.

"Erik will upgrade our team speed and size, and his physical style of play makes him difficult to play against," said Taylor. "He has an offensive upside and we feel strongly that with his size, speed and talent, he has a chance to be a legitimate power forward in the NHL."

Mair, 23, played in 18 games for the Kings this past season, recording two points (1-1=2) and 57 penalty minutes. In addition, the 6-1, 210-pounder from Hamilton, Ontario, played in 27 games for the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, where he had 19 points (10-9=19) and 48 penalty minutes. Originally drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the fourth-round (84th overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Mair was acquired by the Kings from Toronto back on March 13, 2001, along with a second-round choice (Mike Cammalleri) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, in exchange for defenseman Aki Berg. In 28 career NHL games with the Kings and the Maple Leafs, Mair has five points (2-3=5) and 83 penalty minutes.
