Kingfish Win First Road Game 11-1
June 2, 2016 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Kenosha Kingfish News Release
Kenosha, Wis. - It's opening week in Wisconsin in the Northwoods League presented by Edvest.
The Kenosha Kingfish did not need extra innings tonight as they defeated the Green Bay Bullfrogs 11-1.
The game was a pitchers duel for the first seven frames. Charlie Hecht was flawless tonight as he worked 7 scoreless innings, surrendered 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. The game was his Northwoods League debut, and Hecht was indubitably impressive.
The game's first run came in the fifth when a throwing error committed by Bullfrogs catcher Colton Onstott brought Nick Kanavas home to score. The game would remain a one run affair until the top of the eighth. The Kingfish plated 9 runs on 14 at-bats thanks to three Green Bay errors. One more run was tacked on for insurance in the top of the ninth.
Pete Schuler went 2 for 3 tonight including a double, while Gunnar McNeill went 2 for 5. As a ball club, the Kingfish showed some patience at the plate as they drew 5 walks. The Kingfish will finish up their series against Green Bay tomorrow night before heading home to take on the Waterloo Bucks on Saturday and Sunday.
