Kenosha Kingfish News Release

St. Cloud, MN - An old-fashioned pitcher's duel ensued Saturday night between the Kingfish and Rox. In the end, it was the Rox who claimed victory by a final score of 2-0.

David Meade took the mound tonight for the Kingfish. To call him masterful would be an understatement. He threw eight innings of action and struck out six batters. He did not walk a single batter, and only allowed four hits during his tenure. He was the only Kingfish to pitch this evening, and took the loss tonight as he allowed two unearned runs.

With two down in the 5th, a ball chopped to Micah Coffey kicked off of his glove into left field, which plated one runner. Minutes later, David Meade threw over to first and caught a base stealer in a run down, but Mitch Gasbarro missed the tag as the runner retreated to first, and a second run crossed the plate from third base. Those would be the only mistakes the Kingfish defense would make all night, but they proved to be both costly and decisive.

The offense was held in check all evening. Pat McInerney paced the Kingfish lineup with a 2-3 night. The only other Kingfish to pick up base hits were Parker Sniatynski and Alex Dunlap. As a unit, the Kingfish drew four walks, but left five runners on base, as they were held scoreless by some very impressive St. Cloud pitching.

The loss puts the Kingfish into a tie with the Rox for the best record in the Northwoods league at 48-33. That being said, with the Madison Mallards being defeated earlier today, the Kingfish have clinched a South Division second half season championship, adding to the championship the Kingfish claimed in the first half of the season.

Tomorrow night's game against St. Cloud will determine who has the best overall record in the league and, as a result, who is guaranteed home field advantage throughout the entirety of the playoffs. First pitch is tomorrow night at 7:05 CT. Regardless of the outcome of tomorrow night's contest, the Kingfish will return home Monday night for a single game elimination playoff game at Simmons Field.

The Kingfish ticket office powered by Platinum Systems is located at 7817 Sheridan Road and is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
