Kingfish Drop Third Straight against Mallards

The Kingfish have played the Madison Mallards three games early on this year and have lost all three . The third loss coming tonight at Warner Park with a score of 12-1. The Kingfish are now 4-5 on the year.

For five straight innings the Kingfish had runners on base with two outs but failed to drive in any of those base runners. Taylor Douglas was the lone bright spot for the Kingfish with two hits and a stolen base. Douglas also made his first appearance as pitcher this year. The only run for the Kingfish came in the ninth. Ryan Fitzgerald hit a double, his first Kingfish hit, with two outs. Kyle Brooks stepped up and singled to send Fitzgerald home to give the Kingfish their first run in the last 17.2 innings.

Zach Morgenstern went five innings and gave up ten hits to take the loss. Mallard's pitcher, Alex Pondick pitched five innings of shutout baseball and had five strikeouts.

The Kingfish take on the Mallards one more time tomorrow evening and then travel to La Crosse for two games against the Loggers. The Kingfish return to historic Simmons Field on Sunday, June 8th for a 3:05 p.m. game against the Kalamazoo Growlers.
