Ottawa 67's News Release

If you weren't one of the 9,862 attendees at the Civic Centre, you missed not only a great game, but a once-in-a-lifetime event in junior hockey history. Today's game was Coach Brian 'Killer' Kilrea's last game behind the bench and the venue for the star-studded ceremony to honour him.

CHL President Dave Branch, Ottawa Senators' President Ron Mlaker, Former 67's and NHL stars Alyn McCauley, Mark Edmundson, and Brendan Bell were among the many people who helped make the ceremony a special one.

Special messages of congratulations and thanks were played on the jumbotron for those who couldn't join us today: Don Cherry, Ron MacLean, and Wayne Gretzky thanked Brian for his contributions to junior hockey across Canada.

After a tribute highlighting his career accomplishments, Killer took the podium and delivered a moving speech that not only had him in tears, but had the crowd on their feet. With a standing ovation the ceremony ended and with the singing of the national anthem, Killer's last charge for the Memorial Cup began.

The 67's early lead quickly turned into a tie game, until the end of the second period when they took the lead back 4-3. Couture's third goal of the day in third period gave the win to the 67's. They skated away with the 5-3 victory over the Kingston Frontenacs for their last regular-season game.

The 67's open the playoffs with their first game this Friday at 7:30 p.m., and the second game on Sunday at 2 p.m.

We hope you and your family will join us next weekend for Killer's last charge. We will see you again, or for this first time, this Friday.
