(Windsor) Spitfires forward Eric Wellwood is the Windsor Spitfires Player of the Week as selected by the team's coaching staff for the week ending Sunday, March 15th. Wellwood scored two goals for the Spitfires in three games played last week. This marks the third time that he has been honoured with this award in 2009.

On Thursday, Wellwood had one goal in Windsor's 5-1 win over the Plymouth Whalers. The next night, he scored one goal in the Spitfires' 5-2 loss to the Kitchener Rangers. On Sunday, he was held off the scoresheet but turned in a gritty effort in Windsor's 3-2 loss to the Owen Sound Attack.

The 19 year-old Oldcastle, Ontario native is eligible for the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He finished the season tied for 2nd in the OHL with five short handed goals. Overall, he scored 16 goals and added 18 assists for 34 points and posted a plus-27 plus/minus rating in 61 games played.

The CHL's top-ranked team will open their first round series of the 2009 OHL Playoffs versus the Owen Sound Attack at the WFCU Centre on Wednesday, March 18th.
