Regina, Sask. - Regina Pats goaltender Matthew Kieper has earned a spot on the preliminary NHL Central Scouting rankings for the 2022 NHL Draft, which was released Tuesday.

The Winnipeg, Man. native was given a 'C' rating on the first 'Players Watch' List, meaning he is a fourth, fifth or sixth-round candidate for the upcoming draft, which will be held on July 7-8, 2021, in Montreal, Que.

The 17-year-old made six consecutive starts to kick off the 2021-22 Western Hockey League season, sporting a 2.68 goals-against average and .902 save percentage thus far. His 148 saves so far this season rank seventh in the WHL.

Kieper is one of six WHL goaltenders on the list, but just one of two born in 2004. The other WHL goalies cracking the list are: Tyler Brennan (Prince George; 'B'), Mason Beaupit (Spokane; 'C'), Reid Dyck (Swift Current; 'C'), Braden Holt (Everett, 'C') and Tyler Suchanek (Tri-City; 'C').

In total, 45 WHL players find themselves on the list, which includes 24 forwards, 15 defensemen and six goaltenders.

Three WHL players earned 'A' ratings (Winnipeg ICE forwards Conor Geekie and Matt Savoie, and Moose Jaw Warriors defenceman Denton Mateychuk), five WHL players were given 'B' ratings and 37 WHL players received 'C' ratings.
