Richmond Kickers News Release

RICHMOND, VA - (Wednesday, June 25, 2014) - The Richmond Kickers (8-1-6, 30 points) conclude a three-game road stand this weekend when they take on the Charleston Battery (4-6-4, 16 points) on Friday, June 27 and Wilmington Hammerheads (5-1-5, 20 points) on Saturday, June 27. Kickoff for both matches is slated for 7:30 p.m. live from Blackbaud Stadium and Legion Stadium, respectively, on YouTube.com/RichmondKickers.

The Kickers enter the road trip following of a 3-1 win over Pittsburgh last weekend. After midfielder Shay Spitz gave the Kickers the advantage inside the first five minutes, the Riverhounds conceded an own goal before pulling one back early in the second half. Prolific goal scorer Matthew Delicâte rounded out the scoreline, notching his sixth goal in five games to solidify the victory on the road.

The Kickers and the Battery meet at Blackbaud Stadium for the second time this season after battling to a 2-2 draw in March when end to end action saw Richmond midfielder George Davis IV score on either side of Jared van Schaik and Amadou Sanyang tallies. Friday's match marks the 50th meeting between the two clubs over the past 22 years, with the series deadlocked at 22 wins, 22 losses and five draws.

Most recently, the Battery dropped a 3-1 loss to the Charlotte Eagles. Surrendering two goals before the half hour mark, the Battery cut the deficit in half when second half substitute Maikel Chang buried his first goal of the season. However, the reprieve was short-lived as the Eagles answered back with an insurance goal to snap a six-game winless streak.

Meanwhile, the Hammerheads are undefeated through the last eight regular season games after coming off a 2-2 draw against the Chicago Fire Reserves last week. The Fire Reserves claimed an early lead before Hammerheads forward Jordan Hamilton leveled the score just after the break. Conceding a goal minutes later, Wilmington rallied behind a 90th minute Will Heaney tally to preserve the point against the MLS side.

Two weeks prior, the Hammerheads overcame a two-goal deficit to steal points from the Kickers at City Stadium. Delicâte notched a pair of first half goals to give the home side an early lead but the Hammerheads powered back with back to back goals with less than 10 minutes remaining to narrow the Kickers' all-time series record advantage to 11-6-7 over their longtime rivals.

The Kickers are set to face both the Battery and the Hammerheads once more this season, first hosting Charleston at City Stadium on July 19 before returning to Legion Stadium to face Wilmington for the third and final time on August 1.
