RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce that former New England Revolution goalkeeper Trevor Spangenberg has signed for the 2018 season.
Spangenberg returns to Richmond after making two appearances with the Kickers on loan from New England in 2015 when he backstopped the club to a 1-0 win in Montreal in April and a 2-2 draw with Charleston in May of that year. He signed with the Revolution in March 2015 after spending the 2014 campaign in Southern California with Chivas USA, where he made one substitute appearance in goal. Since then, he spent the last two seasons with NASL side Puerto Rico FC, posting a 1.24 goals against average in a combined 33 starts and 10 shutouts.
A native of Meza, Arizona, Spangenberg played four seasons at Missouri State University. A major contributor his senior season for the Missouri Valley Conference regular season champions, he broke the MSU single-season record for fewest goals allowed (8) and goals against average (0.41) in 2013. He holds records as the University's career leader in goals against average (0.67) and fourth in career shutouts (17).
Spangenberg joins 19 players currently under contract including Sam Bacon, Matt Bolduc, Heviel Cordovés, Kent Dickey, Giuseppe Gentile, Raul Gonzalez, Yudai Imura, Alex Lee, Luiz Fernando, Fred Owusu Sekyere, Mallan Roberts, Conor Shanosky, Brian Shriver, Braeden Troyer, Oscar Umar, Mekeil Williams, Finnlay Wyatt, Austin Yearwood and William Yomby.
