Kharlton Belmar Named USL Player of the Month

Sporting Kansas City II News Release

Sporting KC and Rangers forward Kharlton Belmar has been named USL Player of the Month for March, the league announced today. Belmar scored four goals and added two assists in just three games in March, allowing him to win the honor with 37 percent of the vote.

"It's an honor," Belmar said. "It's a testament to all the hard work that all of us put in during preseason and getting ready for the season. We've got to continue to take that into the rest of the year and continue to just keep up the hard work and continue to push and carry on with the momentum."

Belmar began the season with a tremendous performance on the road against Reno 1868 FC during a 4-3 victory in a snowstorm on March 17. The 25-year-old played a part in all four goals, tallying twice - including the game-winner - and providing two assists. That performance saw him named USL Player of the Week for Week 1.

The Virginia Beach, Virginia native followed that up with another brilliant outing against Seattle Sounders FC 2 in the Rangers' home opener on March 24. Belmar bagged himself another two goals in that game on the way to a 4-2 win.

Belmar is now the Rangers' all-time leading scorer with 20 goals in just 36 appearances, and has also recorded six assists since joining the club ahead of the 2017 USL season. Belmar earned himself an MLS contract with Sporting Kansas City last September and has since appeared in one MLS match for the club.

The Rangers are back in action this weekend when the side hosts OKC Energy FC at Shawnee Mission South District Stadium in a 2017 Western Conference Final rematch. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT with tickets available via SeatGeek.
