Ottawa Renegades News Release

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Renegades are pleased to announce the signing of non-import offensive lineman Ibrahim (Obby) Khan and non-import wide receiver David Azzi, both natives of Ottawa, to two-year contracts with club options for the 2006 season.

Both players will attend 2004 Renegades training camp which begins on Sunday, May 23 at Kemptville College (University of Guelph) in Kemptville, Ontario.

During the 2004 Canadian College Draft held last month, the Renegades selected Khan, an Orleans native, second overall and Azzi, a native of Ottawa, third overall.

"Both players are outstanding candidates for our football club," said Renegades head coach and director of football operations Joe Paopao. "They were at the top of their class in the draft. We know that they possess lots of talents, so we're looking forward to watching them compete during camp."

Khan, 23, received the J.P. Metras Trophy as the Most Outstanding Lineman in Canadian university football during the 2003 season. The 6-foot-3, 304-pound giant recently attended a mini-camp with the Cincinnati Bengals of the National Football League.

Azzi, 23, began his collegiate football career at Bowling Green University in 2001 and served as the team's No. 3 quarterback prior to transferring to the University of Ottawa. During the 2001 season with the Gee-Gees, Azzi threw for 2,039 yards and 22 touchdowns and was named to the OUA second all-star team.

In 2002, Azzi split duties between quarterback and receiver before becoming a full-time receiver in 2003, his final season with the Gee-Gees in which he led the squad with 36 catches for 643 yards and five touchdowns. His efforts in 2003 led to his nomination to the OUA first all-star team.
