Keys Win Marathon Game against Nationals

WOODBRIDGE, VA-After 3 hours and 50 minutes, the Frederick Keys (55-61, 20-27) collected a run in the 12th inning to defeat the Potomac National (61-49, 24-20) 4-3 on Thursday afternoon at Northwest Federal Field. The 12-inning game equaled the longest game of the year for the Keys and it improved their extra inning record to 6-1.
In the 12th inning of a 3-3 game, Cole Billingsley drove in Daniel Fajardo with a single to give the Keys a 4-3 lead. Steven Klimek came out for his third inning of work in the bottom half of the inning. With a runner at second, he struck out Jack Sundberg. After Bryan Mejia popped out, Luis Garcia collected an infield single to advance the tying run to third. From there, Klimek induced a groundout from Ian Sagdal to end the ballgame and secure the win.
For the second straight game, Collin Woody got the Keys on the board with a home run. After Preston Palmeiro walked, Woody launched his ninth home run to left field to make it 2-0. It was Woody's eighth home run away from Nymeo Field.
The Nationals collected a run in fifth inning. David Masters started the frame with a double, and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Edwin Lora. Lora reached on an error from Woody and Masters scored on a sacrifice fly from Sundberg which made it 2-1 Keys. Zac Lowther was able to avoid further damage by earning a strikeout with runners at the corners.
Potomac tied the game in the seventh. Masters led off with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After Sundberg struck out, David Mejia hit a single to left field to score Masters and make it 2-2.
The score stayed 2-2 until the 11th. In the top half of the frame, Chris Clare started at second base. He scored on a Randolph Gassaway single to give the Keys the lead. The Nationals tied it up in the bottom half of the frame. With Rhett Wiseman pinch running, Telmito Agustin collected an RBI single which made it 3-3.
Klimek (4-2) earned the win. He pitched three innings and allowed one unearned run. Jeremy McKinney (3-3) took the loss. He left the game due to injury after pitching to two batters and allowing a run. Lowther produced a quality outing. The left-hander pitched 6.2 innings while allowing two runs on six hits. He walked one and struck out seven.
The Keys return to Nymeo Field on Friday night to face the Buies Creek Astros for a three-game set. Right-hander Cristian Alvarado (10-8, 4.20) takes the mound against right-hander Cristian Javier (3-4, 3.18) for the Astros.
