Salem RidgeYaks News Release

Salem, VA-The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, saw a one-run lead disappear in the ninth Wednesday night against the Frederick Keys as the visitors notched a 3-2 win on Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. The victory for Frederick (21-17) was its first in three tries in the series against Salem (16-21).

Down a run entering the ninth, Frederick earned a leadoff single from Ryan McCarthy against Jason Dominguez. With Paul Winterling at the plate, McCarthy was caught stealing. On the next pitch, Winterling struck out on a breaking ball from Dominguez. Frederick re-built the rally, though, beginning with a Brandon Tripp single. Next, pinch-hitter Brandon Snyder tripled to deep left-center and tied the game. Following that, Dominguez let a wild pitch loose to score Snyder and post Frederick's winning margin.

Salem already executed a comeback in the game. With one out in the fifth, Tim Torres evened a previously 1-0 game with one swing. He shipped a 2-0 pitch from Jake Renshaw over the wall in right for his second home run of the season.

Salem broke the tie in the seventh against reliever Scott Mueller. With Cesar Quintero at second following a Roberto Mena sacrifice bunt and Greg Buchanan flyout, Torres rippled a single past first baseman Chris Vinyard into right for an RBI and the lead.

Ryan Ouellette snatched the win for Frederick, his first of the season. For the Avs, Torres and Quintero each chipped in with a pair of hits.

Salem can still cement the series win in game four Thursday as right-hander Corey Bass throws for the Avs against Keys righty Jake Arrieta. Gametime is 7:07 PM.
