Frederick Keys News Release

An exciting sixth inning rally withered into frustration soon after as Wilmington's four-run outburst buried the Keys as Frederick fell 7-6. The Sunday afternoon defeat was the 12th for Frederick in their last 15 games.

The Keys did jump atop when RF Ronnie Welty hit his career-high 18th home run of the season to centerfield, a solo shot with two down in the first inning. Wilmington would grab the lead however with a three-run fourth inning before the Keys rallied. In the sixth inning 2B LJ Hoes walked and then stole second base. 1B Tyler Townsend walked and the two were off to the races as the double steal enticed an errant throw into centerfield that allowed Hoes to trot home. The Keys were a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen bases in the game.

C Brian Ward then singled to right field and Townsend narrowly beat the throw to tie the game at 3-apiece. After that the bottom fell out for Frederick.

The first four batters on the bottom of the sixth inning reached with Blue Rocks 3B Adam Frost tripling home two runs. Frost, who has been with the club since June, drove home four in the game. He had 12 RBI's coming into the afternoon tilt.

The Keys battled back with three runs in the seventh kicked off by a Kyle Hudson triple, but it would be all they could muster.

The regular season concludes on Labor Day afternoon, Monday, September 6th as RHP Zach Clark gets the ball for the series finale. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior on The Keys Baseball Network.

Playoff tickets are on-sale as the Keys will face the Potomac Nationals in Game One of the Northern Division Championship Series Wednesday, September 8th at 7:00 p.m. from Harry Grove Stadium. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or visit online at frederickkeys.com.
