Frederick Keys News Release
Frederick's bats awoke from a mid-game slumber, breaking a ninth inning tie with a two-run rally as the Keys pulled out a close one to even its three-game series with Potomac on Wednesday night with a 7-5 win.
In the top of the ninth inning Keys 1B Robbie Widlansky fought off a litany of two strike pitches before lining a single into left-center field to leadoff the inning. Two batters later, C Caleb Joseph hit a groundball that was misplayed by Nationals 3B Greg Veloz leaving runners at first and second base.
A batter later the Keys had the lead.
LF Tyler Henson lobbed a single into right-field scoring Widlansky to give the Keys a 6-5 lead. 2B Bobby Stevens would give the Keys an insurance run with an RBI-single putting Frederick atop, 7-5.
Frederick grabbed an early lead out of the gate off of Nationals starter Trevor Holder.
The Keys scored four runs on six hits in the first inning and had nine hits through four innings in the game. Frederick only had two more hits until the pivotal ninth inning.
Frederick got great relief from RHP Brian Parker, who worked three scoreless innings, while Eddie Gamboa (4-0) and Brandon Cooney worked well down the stretch. For Cooney it was his second save in three appearances.
The series and trip concludes Thursday, August 13th at 7:05 p.m. with Nate Nery on the hill for Frederick. Coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. with The UPS Store Pre-Game Show.
The Keys return home for NFL Night Friday, August 14th at 7:00 p.m. against Winston-Salem. Baltimore Ravens Cheerleaders will be in attendance and fireworks will follow the game.
