Frederick Keys News Release
Frederick, MD- The Keys used an early barrage offensively and great pitching throughout to take the 7-1 victory over State College on Saturday night in front of a packed crowd for Star Wars night.
The Keys scored runs in each of the first four innings. In the first, they struck first thanks to an RBI single through the left side by Brennan Orf (Southern Illinois, Evansville).
Their biggest inning came in the second, where they scored three runs, including RBI singles from the debuting pair John Volpe (Rider) and Ariel Antigua (Trinity Christian Academy). Sandwiched in between them was an RBI knock from Tervell Johnson (Compton College) who also proceeded to steal two bases, bringing his season total to 10.
With two gone in the third inning, Logan Sanders (St Petersburg) unloaded on a pitch to left center field for his first longball of the year, a two-run shot to make it 6-1 Keys.
After a two out Antigua double in the fourth, Jevin Relaford (Florida Southern) deposited an RBI single to left field to extend the lead to 7-1.
Though that would be it for the Keys offense, it would be more than enough thanks to a dazzling performance on the hill.
Jordan Hamberg (Coppin State) got the start, and tossed three innings and striking out three. He allowed just one run on two hits, with the run coming off of an RBI groundout.
Ryan Harrahill (Elkhorn North HS), followed Hamberg with two scoreless innings, allowing just two hits. He struck out a batter and rolled an inning ending double play ball in the fifth.
Jayden Martin (Florence-Darlington Tech), Nate Roof (North Greenville), and Bryan Gomez (State College of Florida), combined to face one over the minimum in the final three frames. Martin and Roof both struck out a pair, and Gomez closed the game down with a strikeout of his own.
With the win, the Keys move to 9-5. They have now won their last five games, and seven of their last eight games. They will look to complete the sweep on Sunday over State College with a 1 PM start.
