
Keys Fall to Cannons, 8-4

The Frederick Keys (25-28) fell to the Potomac Cannons (23-30), 8-4, Thursday night at Harry Grove Stadium in front of 5,756 fans. Though the Keys lost the game, Frederick won the four-day, five-game series, three games to two.
Cannons SS Hector Tiburcio started out the scoring for Potomac in the top of the third inning with a two-run home run off of losing pitcher Kurt Birkins (5-2).
RF Chris Carter cut Potomac's lead in half with a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning. The home run was Carter's tenth on the year.
Potomac's first baseman, Joey Votto, hit a solo home run in the top of the third to extend Potomac's lead to two runs.
The Cannons added four runs in the sixth inning, but the Keys answered back in the bottom of the inning with three of their own. With two men on base, DH Mike Done singled through the right side to bring in 1B Doug Gredvig for the first run of the inning.
After RF Chris Carter struck out and C Ryan Hubele was walked, 2B Gera Alvarez reached on a fielder's choice. 3B Tripper Johnson scored on the play.
The next batter, CF B.J. Littleton, reached on a fielding error by Cannons SS Hector Tiburcio. Mike Done scored on the play for the third run of the inning.
The Cannons scored again in the eighth inning to solidify the win, 8-4.
The Keys head to Myrtle Beach to take on the Pelicans for a three-game series.
The Frederick Keys will return to Harry Grove Stadium on August 27 to take on the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. After the three-game series, the Keys will take on the Lynchburg Hillcats starting September 1. Tickets are still available for the last homestand of the season. CORRECTION TO LAST NIGHT'S GAME STORY: The Keys broke the record for the longest nine-inning game last night with a game time of 3 hours and 51 minutes. The second longest was listed as 3 hours and 34 minutes when it should have been 3 hours and 43 minutes...
NOTES: Losing pitcher Kurt Birkins lasted 4.1 innings and gave up five hits and three earned runs, while striking out five batters... Doug Gredvig went 3-for-4 on the night with one run scored... Keys reliever Ryan Keefer pitched 1.2 innings and gave up two hits...
