Winston-Salem, NCâ The Winston Salem Warthogs (32-21, 61-62) beat Wilmington, 4-1, Thursday night at Ernie Shore Field. The 'hogs and Blue Rocks split the four game series. The Warthogs have four of their last six games. Warthogs' starter, Kenny Ray, earned his tenth win. Ray tossed six shutout innings, scattering only three hits. Blue Rocks' starter, Eric Ackerman, suffered his sixth loss.
The Warthogs took a 1-0 lead when Brian Becker hit a solo home run in the second. It was Becker's 18th home run. Darren Blakely hit his 18th homer, a two-run shot, in the bottom of the fourth. The Warthogs led, 3-0, in the seventh when they added their final run. Peanut Williams doubled and scored on a Tommy Nicholson double.
The Blue Rocks added their only run on a two-out solo homer by Donnie Murphy in the ninth. Peanut Williams and Pedro Lopez each had two hits for the Warthogs. Donnie Murphy and Mike Aviles each had two hits for Wilmington.
Winston-Salem begins a six game road trip Friday at Salem, VA. First pitch in game one of their three game series is 7:05pm. RHP Brian Miller tosses for Winston-Salem, while RHP Jason Hirsh pitches for Salem. There will be no radio broadcast Friday night.
