Frederick Keys News Release
Through the first 71 games of the season, the Keys (3-1, 44-30) scored more than 10 runs just twice. Now after 74 games, the Keys have reached double digits five times as they scored 10 runs on Sunday for the third consecutive night. Frederick jumped out to a three-run lead over Wilmington (2-2, 34-40) after the first inning. The Keys plated six more in the third as they cruised to a 10-3 victory. Over the past three nights, Frederick has outscored their opponents 31-9.
Following a scoreless top of the first, the Keys gave their starter, RHP Ryan O'Shea, some runs to work with. LF Felix Pie singled off RHP Bryan Paukovits to leadoff the inning. CF Kyle Hudson followed up with a double over the head of LF Adrian Ortiz. Two batters later, 1B Joe Mahoney drove home Pie and Hudson on a RBI single to centerfield. Mahoney scored later in the inning on a RBI groundout by DH Jacob Julius.
Ryan O'Shea threw two more scoreless innings before Frederick extended their lead in the bottom of the third. The first five Keys that came to the plate in the third all singled and scored in the inning. In all, Frederick scored six runs on seven hits to expand their lead to 9-0 after three innings.
The Keys added another run in the fifth on a RBI single by Ronnie Welty. On the night, all nine starters for the Keys had a hit and five had multi-hit nights. Joe Mahoney finished the evening 3-for-4 with three RBI. Mahoney has driven in seven runs over the past three games. In his third and final game with the Keys, Major League rehabber Felix Pie went 2-for-4 with two runs and a RBI. Pie went 5-for-12 in his rehab stint with Frederick. He scored three runs and drove in two.
