Frederick Keys News Release
Frederick, MD - The Keys won their sixth straight game on Sunday, becoming the first team in the MLB Draft League to reach the ten-win mark with a 9-3 win over State College.
Chen-Wei Lin (Chinese Culture University) put on his best start of the season, tossing five innings and allowing just three hits, with the only run against him coming on an error in the top of the third inning. Lin struck out a season high six batters in the outing.
The Keys offense did more than enough to back him on Sunday, putting up four spots in both the third and fourth innings to build a comfortable lead.
In the third inning, Kendry Maduro (Northwest Florida State) tied the game up with a double to right center field. The hit scored AJ Shaver (Florida Southwestern State), who had led off the inning with a walk, and stolen second base. Following a walk, Brennen Dorighi (Iowa) and Brennan Orf (Southern Illinois, Evansville) slugged back to back triples to give the Keys and early 4-0 cushion.
In the fourth inning, Bryce Arnold (Campbell) kept the scoring going when he flew out to the warning track, but scoring two on a deep sacrifice fly. With a full count and runners going later in the inning, Orf blooped a base hit into shallow left field to score a pair, completing the second straight four run frame and putting Frederick up 8-1.
The final blow of the Keys offensive showing would come to lead off the sixth inning when Kendrey Maduro blasted a solo homer to lead off the inning. For Maduro, the league batting leader, it was his second home run of the weekend.
State College chipped away with runs in the eighth and ninth innings. A Cameron Bufford (Grambling State) single in the eighth and Elie Kligman (Undecided) single in the ninth were ultimately not enough as the Keys completed their second consecutive sweep.
They will look to continue their momentum on a six game road trip that will send them to Williamsport and West Virginia.
Notes:
-Tyler Germanowski (Liberty) completed two hitless innings, while striking out four batters.
- Kendrey Maduro reached in all five plate appearances, finishing a triple shy of the cycle. Brennan Orf recorded three hits as well.
