Frederick Keys News Release

Despite being held hitless through the first five innings on Thursday afternoon, the Keys pieced together a comeback in the seventh and eighth and prevailed in the series finale over Salem, 3-2. CF Miguel Abreu doubled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth off RHP Pete Ruiz. With the win, the Keys closed out their seven game homestand with 6-1 record. In addition, Frederick finished the year with a 15-5 mark against the Red Sox.

Thursday's matinee remained scoreless entering the fourth inning. DH Dan Butler led off the frame with a double off LHP Nick Haughian. After a Matt Spring fly out to right moved Butler to third, 2B Alex Valdez walked. Haughian was able strike out 1B Miles Head for the second out of the inning but LF Vladimir Frias put the Sox on the board with a RBI single to right field. CF Shannon Wilkerson followed up with a RBI single to center and Salem led by a pair of runs after four innings.

Red Sox starting pitcher, Ryan Pressly, left the game after five innings. The Keys were unable to muster a hit against Pressly on the day but Pressly racked up 83 pitches which lead to his early exit.

RF Steve Bumbry broke up the no-no in the top of the sixth. Bumbry led off the inning with a single to center off RHP Pete Ruiz. Frederick did not score in the sixth but on one swing of the bat in the seventh, the Keys tied the game. With out and one out, 1B Michael Flacco belted his first home run as a Frederick Key over the left field fence. Flacco's long ball tied the game at two.

After Justin Moore struck out the side in the top of the eighth, Frederick took the lead in the bottom of the inning. With two outs in the inning, DH Jacob Julius singled to left field. CF Miguel Abreu stepped to the plate after the Julius base hit. Abreu drove an outside pitch down the right field line. Julius motored all the way from first to put the Keys in front, 3-2. Prior to the RBI double, Abreu was 0-for-13 in the four-game series against Salem.

RHP Sean Gleason retired the side in order in the ninth en route to his Carolina League-best 30th save of the season.

Justin Moore picked up the win and improved to 3-0 on the season after he tossed three scoreless innings of relief.

The Keys head to Woodbridge, VA on Friday to start up a three-game series against their Northern Division foe, the Potomac Nationals. RHP Bobby Bundy (10-5, 2.92) will take the hill for Frederick while the P-Nats will turn to RHP Adam Olbrychowski (3-5, 4.68). First pitch from Pfitzner Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
