Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Myrtle Beach, SC - The Hillcats blew two separate leads Thursday night, eventually falling 7-6 in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the ninth. Pelicans' catcher Zach Zaneski delivered the final blow singling in the winning run, capping off a three-run final frame for Myrtle Beach.
After being held scoreless through 14 innings Wednesday night, the Hillcats jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first Thursday. Joey Terdoslavich singled in the first run. Then, Joe Leonard launched a three-run shot, his sixth home run of the season over the bleachers in left field.
The Pelicans chipped into the lead slightly in the third. With runners at second and third and two outs Jared Bolden struck out on a curveball in the dirt. Bolden took off for first base. The throw went of Terdoslavich's glove and run came in making it 4-1 Hillcats.
Myrtle Beach then tied the game up in the bottom of the sixth. Travis Adair lined a pitch in to right field with runners on at first and second. One run came in to score and right fielder Keenan Wiley's throw went to third base. The ball bounced past Barrett Kleinknecht allowing another run to score and Adair to reach third. Adair would score as the next batter; Zach Zaneski hit a sacrifice fly to center.
Wiley would redeem himself in the next inning singling and eventually scoring on a wild pitch to give the 'Cats the lead 5-4.
Lynchburg padded their lead with one more run in the ninth setting up a 6-4 save opportunity for closer Ryan Buchter.
Buchter would get two outs in the ninth before loading the bases with back-to-back walks for Zaneski. A wild pitch that skipped over to the third base dugout brought in two runs to tie the game at 6-6. Catcher Christian Bethancourt did not realized where the pitch had went which gave the runners time to advance two bases. With the winning run now at third, Zaneski singled to center field and the Pelicans won 7-6.
Zach Osbourne earned the win in relief for the Pelicans to improve to 2-2, while Buchter blew his first save of the season and took his fourth loss, now 1-4 with the Hillcats.
Lynchburg finished their 11-game road trip 4-7 and are now 11-22 in the second half. They return home to face the Salem Red Sox tomorrow night at 7:05 pm. LHP Chris Masters (6-5) will start for the Hillcats against RHP Stolmy Pimentel (0-3) for the Red Sox.
