July 28, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC (JULY 28, 2011) - One big inning was all Winston-Salem needed to wrap up a four-game sweep of Kinston as the Dash scored six runs in the fourth on the way to a 6-3 win on Thursday night at BB&T Ballpark. The win moved Winston only a half game out of first place in the last meeting between the Carolina League's two oldest teams.
Kinston (18-14, 56-45) scored first in the ballgame. In the top of the fourth, Jeremie Tice hit a ground-rule double with two outs and scored on Jesus Aguilar's single to shallow right field.
The Dash (18-15, 50-53) scored all the runs they needed in the fourth inning. Jared Mitchell was hit by a pitch from T.J. House to start the frame and moved to third on Andy Wilkins' single. Ian Gac followed with a pop-up single to center field to tie the game. Brady Shoemaker then doubled in Wilkins and Gac, and later scored on Nick Ciolli's single. Even with four runs in, the Dash weren't done. Ciolli moved to third when Mike Blanke doubled and scored when Tyler Saladino reached on an error. Blanke later scored on a wild pitch to put the Dash up 6-1.
On the home stand, Winston-Salem notched seven different innings in which they scored three or more runs in six different games. The Dash won all of those games and averaged seven runs per game during the stretch at BB&T Ballpark
The Indians notched a run in the fifth when Tyler Holt tripled to lead off and came around to score on Casey Frawley's single. In the seventh, the K-Tribe tallied one more when Dash starter Joe Serafin walked the bases loaded with one out. Serafin was pulled for Leroy Hunt, and Holt crossed home on a fielder's choice ground out by Jeremie Tice. Hunt stymied the rally from there, and the Dash were up three.
Kinston had two more base runners for the rest of the game, as Hunt finished off a scoreless outing and gave way to Taylor Thompson to close the ballgame. Thompson picked up his 12th save of the season. Serafin got his third win of the season after 6.1 innings where he gave up three runs (all earned) on six hits. House got the loss.
Winston-Salem heads to Myrtle Beach for a three-game series starting Friday at BB&T Coastal Field at 7 p.m. Winston-Salem sends SHP Brad Furnish (0-2, 13.50) to the mound opposite LHP Robbie Ross (9-4, 2.24).
