Frederick Keys News Release
FREDERICK, MD - Late runs and silent bats saw the Frederick Keys (11-24, 39-64) drop a 7-2 contest to the Potomac Nationals (19-18, 49-55) on Saturday night at Nymeo Field. The P-Nats scored the final five runs of the game, all coming in the last four innings, while the bullpen held the Keys' offense silent despite tallying 10 hits. The Keys have now lost four-straight and have dropped both three-game series at home.
Tied 2-2 in the sixth, Ofelky Peralta walked a batter and baulked to put him in scoring position. Telmito Agustin then doubled home the go-ahead run to make it 3-2 P-Nats. Peralta then hit Alex Dunlap but got Gilbert Lara to pop-out for the second out of the inning. With his pitch count in the mid-90s, Peralta attempted to retired Jack Sundberg for the final out of the frame, but Sundberg climbed aboard with an infield hit to load the bases.
Peralta (0-1) was yanked after throwing 101 pitches and Scott Burke came in to face Cole Freeman, who bounced a seeing-eye single up the middle to bring home two more runs. A two-run shot from Jakson Reetz in the eighth capped off the 7-2 victory for Potomac.
The right-hander was tagged with five runs on nine hits, walked a pair and struck out five batters in 5.2 frames.
Peralta dealt with traffic all day. He allowed back-to-back singles to start the second inning and after a sacrifice bunt and a line-out, Gilbert Lara came through with an RBI single. The right-hander then threw a wild-pitch that made it 2-0 P-Nats.
The Keys struck back in the bottom of the inning. Brett Cumberland led-off with a double and Cadyn Grenier knocked him with a double of his own to cut the lead to 2-1. The Keys tied it in the fifth. With runners at the corners and one-out, Cole Billingsley dropped a bunt down the first-base line that scored the tying run.
That was all Tim Cate (3-3) allowed. The southpaw allowed eight hits but did not walk a batter in five innings.
The P-Nats bullpen held strong after that. Andrew Istler saw the minimum through two innings while Hayden Howard took the eighth and Frankie Bartow pitched the ninth.
The Keys and P-Nats finish their three-game set on Sunday, July 28. RHP Brenan Hanifee (7-4.31) takes the mound for Frederick opposite RHP Malvin Pena (5-6, 6.05). First pitch is scheduled for 1:00pm, with pregame coverage starting at 12:45pm on frederickkeys.com and the Tune In radio app.
The Frederick Keys are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and play their home games at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.
