Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
The Keys scored six unanswered runs to rally for a 7-4 series opening win over the Hillcats on Thursday night in Frederick.
Frederick brought in the first run of the night in the bottom of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. Brian Ward singled home Billy Rowell, who reached on an error, to give the Keys the early edge. Lynchburg immediately responded with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning to take over the lead. Miguel Rojas hit the first of the two, his first homer of the season, and Cody Puckett smacked his seventh to give the Green & Gold the advantage.
In the fifth inning the Hillcats tacked on two more runs to their lead. Puckett knocked in a run with an RBI double and a throwing error aided the other run to make it 4-1 Lynchburg. The Keys though would battle back in their half of the inning with three runs of their own to tie the game at four a piece. Three more runs home came across for the Keys to give them the lead for good in the bottom of the seventh. Jacob Julius crushed a three-run home run out to right to give Frederick the lead for good.
The loss went to Sean Watson (1-2) for Lynchburg (24-30) who had their five-game winning streak snapped. The win went to Jose Duran (3-0) and the save to Jose Diaz (6) for first place Frederick (31-23). The second game of the four-game series is set for 7:00 p.m. on Friday night at Harry Grove Stadium. Right-hander Brad Boxberger (3-4, 3.38) will head to the bump for the Hillcats opposite righty Ryan O'Shea (3-3, 3.99) for the Keys. Tune-in for all the live action on 105.5 FM KD Country.
