Kinston Indians News Release

Crazy Eights - Kinston won their eighth consecutive series Wednesday night in a bizarre 2-0 victory over Wilmington. Kinston was out-hit 8-2 and had a total of just six base runners, but got all the runs they needed on a Jason Kipnis two-run blast in the first inning. The two hits matched a season-low. Lucas Montero tied a Carolina League record with three outfield assists, as he threw out two runners trying to stretch singles to doubles and also gunned down Rey Navarro, who was trying to tag up and score on a fly ball in the fifth.

Groundhog Day- That baseball term has taken on a new meaning for the K-Tribe, as the last four series have seen a pattern develop. In each of the past four series, Kinston has won the opener, lost the middle game, and won the rubber game. The K-Tribe has won five rubber games in a row to improve to 6-3 in that category. They are also 10-7 in series finales. The eight straight series wins come after Kinston had won just one of their first eight series to start the season.

Shutout Shop - Last night's shutout was the seventh of the season for Indians pitching, which leads the circuit. That was despite starter T.J. House surrendering 8 hits, which was the second-highest total for a K-Tribe starter this season.
