Frederick Keys News Release
The Potomac Nationals had all the momentum with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. They had a 2-0 lead, they had their ace on the mound, and they had two strikes on Keys 1B Brandon Snyder. But, with one swing of the bat, Frederick's fortune turned, as the Keys came all the way back to beat Potomac 5-2, and pull to witihin 1.5 games of first place in the Northern Division.
The game started out as a pitcher's dual, as Keys' starter Jake Arrieta retired the first six P-Nats he faced, four via the strikeout. In the bottom half of the third, Potomac LF Marvin Lowrance took an outside fastball the other way and over the wall in left to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.
With two men out in the bottom of the fourth, Arrieta walked Leonard Davis and Edgardo Baez. Lowrance came to the plate again, and delivered a bloop RBI-single to left to extend Potomac's lead to two.
Nationals' starter Jordan Zimmerman faced the minmum through the first 4.2 innings, allowing just two base hits and striking out three. In the bottom of the fifth, with the count full, Keys 3B Bill Rowell worked a two out walk. Snyder then worked the count full as well, before hitting an opposite field homerun to tie the game at two.
The Keys pulled away in the sixth. SS Jason White reached on a bunt single, then stole second. He got to third on a Danny Figueroa ground out. Chris Amador singled White in to give the Keys their first lead of the night.
After stealing second, Amador got picked off. Matt Wieters and Chris Vinyard both singled with two men out. Brandon tripp doubled to right, scoring Wieters and giving the Keys a 4-2 lead.
Frederick tacked on another run in the eighth on back-to-back doubles from Wieters and Vinyard. Keys closer Jason Burch slammed the door in the top of the ninth to seal the deal for Frederick.
Arrieta picked up the win, improving to 2-0, after allowing two runs (both earned) on four hits, walking five and striking out six. Zimmerman got credited with the loss. Burch picked up his fourth save of the season.
The Keys and the P-Nats will clash in game two of this three-game series tomorrow afternoon at Harry Grove Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00. For ticket information, contact the Keys box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
