Kevin Nagle's Statement on the United 2026 World Cup Announcement
June 13, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sacramento Republic FC News Release
Please see below for Republic FC Chairman & CEO Kevin Nagle's official statement regarding FIFA's awarding of the 2026 World Cup to the North America bid today:
"We are thrilled with FIFA's decision to award the 2026 World Cup to North America.
Today is a historic day for soccer in the United States. When the U.S. hosted the tournament in 1994, not only was it one of the most successful World Cups in FIFA's history, it also helped launch and build the professional game to new heights in our country. This time around, it will create an unprecedented level of enthusiasm and resources to grow and celebrate the sport, both here in Sacramento and across the nation.
This event will bring people together on a grand scale - people from all backgrounds and from all walks of life - to root on the colors that represent them. That's the beauty of this sport, and in our own way, we see this power and impact of the world's game right here in Sacramento every day."
