Grand Rapids Griffins News Release

Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings, NHL affiliate of the Grand Rapids Griffins, announced on Wednesday the signing of right wing Kevin Miller to a one-year contract. The Lansing, Mich., native and former Michigan State Spartan spent two of his 15 professional seasons in a Red Wings uniform, totaling 53 points (25-28-53) in 91 games with Detroit from 1990-92.

Miller, 37, returned to his home state in 1999 as a member of the Griffins and captained the club to the 2000 IHL Turner Cup finals. After compiling 54 points (20-34-54) and tying for the team lead with seven power play goals in 63 regular season games, he led the league with 11 goals and 18 points in 17 playoff contests. Both totals remain Griffins records for a single postseason.

The first of three Miller brothers to play for Grand Rapids (Kelly in 1999-00 and Kip from 2000-02), Kevin still ranks among the franchise's all-time playoff performers with 18 points (6th), 11 goals (4th) and five power play tallies (2nd). Miller, who has played 616 NHL games for nine different teams, spent the last three seasons with Davos of the Swiss National League. In 2002-03, he placed second on his team with 24 assists and tied for third with 38 points in 44 regular season games. During the 2003 playoffs, he finished first on the team and second in the league with eight goals, leading Davos to the finals.

Also among Miller's Swiss highlights were winning a championship with Davos in 2002 and pacing the league with 29 goals during the 2000-01 campaign.

Miller boasts a long track record of representing his country in international play, becoming one of only 14 players ever to earn a spot on three United States National Junior Teams (1981-83). His commitment continued during his senior season at Michigan State, when he joined the U.S. National Team and played at the 1988 Winter Olympic Games in Calgary.

As recently as this past season, Miller played for the U.S. National Team in two tournaments, including the Deutschland Cup in Germany last November, and the 2003 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships in Finland during the spring.
