CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - The Kernels won their sixth straight and completed a sweep of the Peoria Chiefs on Sunday in a wacky ending at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Logan Wade scored the walk-off run in the 5-4 win as he scampered home from third base on a wild pitch by Peoria's reliever Jacob Booden, who attempted to intentionally walk Mitch Garver.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Booden intended to put Garver on first base, which would have loaded the bases with two outs for Alex Swim. However, the first pitch to Garver was in the dirt and got past catcher Steve Bean. Wade was able to sprint home and score the game-winning, walk-off run in the 5-4 victory.

With two outs in the final inning, Wade doubled into right field. Wade advanced to third base on a wild pitch by Booden while Chad Christensen drew a walk. Booden (0-1) took the loss, allowing the winning run in 1 2/3 innings on just one hit. He struck out one and walked two.

Brian Gilbert (1-0) collected the win while pitching a scoreless and hitless top of the ninth inning.

Peoria took an early 3-0 lead in the second inning, scoring a trio of runs with two outs. Michael Schulze began the scoring by driving in Steve Bean from second base with a double to deep left field. Vaughn Bryan then singled up the middle to drive in Schulze, and he advanced to second base on the throw home from Max Murphy. Juan Herrera made it three straight hits in the next at-bat with a double to left-center field to bring in Bryan for the 3-0 lead.

The Kernels grabbed a run back in the fourth when Christensen scored on a Swim ground out to the first base side. Christensen, who began the frame with a leadoff walk, made it a 3-1 game heading to the fifth.

Wade put the Kernels in front 4-3 with one swing of the bat in the bottom of the fifth inning. Wade pulled a three-run home run to left with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring both Michael Quesada and Jonatan Hinojosa. Both Quesada and Hinojosa singled earlier in the frame. It was Wade's seventh home run of the season.

The Chiefs quickly tied the game 4-4 in the top of the sixth inning on a RBI triple by Richy Pedroza. The three-bagger plated Bean, who walked earlier.

Ryan Eades exited after six innings on the day, allowing four runs on seven hits. He struck out one and walked two. Hudson Boyd went two scoreless and hitless innings, retiring all six he faced with two strikeouts.

Kyle Helisek went 5 1/3 innings for Peoria, allowing four runs on seven hits. Helisek struck out two and walked two. Jhonny Polanco added 1 2/3 innings in relief for the Chiefs, allowing no runs on two hits. He struck out one and walked none.
