Dayton, Ohio-J.D. Williams and Logan Wade connected on solo home runs in the sixth inning and the Cedar Rapids Kernels went on to a 4-1 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Sunday afternoon. A crowd of 8,139 saw the game at Fifth Third Field as the Kernels won their second straight game in the series.

Dragons starting pitcher Amir Garrett was brilliant over the first five innings, allowing just one base runner while striking out eight. But Williams and Wade belted home runs against Garrett in the sixth to give Cedar Rapids a 2-0 lead. The Kernels added two unearned runs in the seventh to build a 4-0 lead.

The Dragons scored their only run in the bottom of the seventh. Joe Hudson lined a double to right field and eventually scored on Avain Rachal's two-out single to center to make it 4-1, but the Dragons did not have another hit over the final two innings.

Cedar Rapids starting pitcher Stephen Gonsalves, making his Midwest League debut after being promoted from Elizabethton, tossed six scoreless innings to earn the win. He allowed three hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

Garrett took the loss to fall to 4-6. He worked six and one-third innings, allowing three hits and two runs with no walks and 10 strikeouts.

Each team had five hits in the game. Hudson's double was the Dragons only extra base hit.
