
Chiefs Blank Loons 4-0 on Sunday Night

PEORIA, IL- Richy Pedroza knocked in a pair of runs to back Rob Kaminsky's six shutout innings as the Peoria Chiefs blanked the Great Lakes Loons 4-0 on Sunday night. The Chiefs have won three in a row and are 20-15 in the second half and 57-47 overall with one game remaining on the homestand.
The Chiefs scored two runs in the second inning against Loons starter Victor Arano. Luis Perez lined a one-out double to right and Cesar Valera doubled down the left field line with two outs to score Perez. Pedroza followed with a line drive single to right scoring Valera and giving the Chiefs a 2-0 lead.
Peoria scored single runs in the third and fourth. Michael Schulze led off the third by reaching on an error by first baseman Josmar Cordero. Schulze moved to second on a Vaughn Bryan ground out and scored on a pair of wild pitches. In the fourth Rowan Wick tripled and scored when Pedroza hit a ground ball that Loons shortstop Brandon Trinkwon made a diving stop of but could not get Wick at the plate to make the score 4-0 Chiefs and end the scoring.
Kaminsky worked out of some early-game trouble. Two of the first three batters of the first inning reached, but he got a strikeout and a ground out to end the frame. He allowed a second inning leadoff double and a walk but got the next two hitters out before Trinkwon reached on a fielding error by Pedroza at second to load the bases. Malcolm Holland flew out to end that threat. In the third, Kaminsky gave up a pair of singles but got a fly out from Webster Rivas to end the inning. Kaminsky allowed one base runner from the fourth through sixth innings when he was taken out of the game.
Kaminsky (5-2) pitched six shutout innings allowing five hits with two walks and four strikeouts to earn the win. Robert Stock tossed two innings giving up one hit with one walk and two strikeouts. Josh Lucas worked a perfect ninth inning.
