Kent electrifies Dell Diamond, leads Express to win
July 12, 2003 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Round Rock Express News Release
Jeff Kent came to Round Rock to get his left wrist back in playing shape. It took one at-bat in his second game back to prove it was just fine.
Kent hit a three-run home run in the first inning and drove in a fourth run in the seventh to help the Round Rock Express down the San Antonio Missions, 6-4, in front of 12,080 at The Dell Diamond. The win gives the Express a split of the four game series and moves the back to four games behind the division leading Missions in the second half.
San Antonio plated a pair of runs in the first, but Kent took care of that on the third pitch he saw from Chris Wright. He deposited his fastball on the left field berm for a three-run home run, his first at Double-A since 1991 with Knoxville.
In the seventh, he drove in his sixth run in two days with a sacrifice fly to center field to give the Express its final run.
That was enough to give Round Rock a split in the crucial series. Starter Greg Powell (4-6) struggled in the first, but fought through the early troubles to go six innings, allow four runs and get the win.
Wright (7-6) took the loss after giving up five runs in six innings. Round Rock moves to 12-12 and San Antonio falls to 16-8.
Round Rock will now go on a 12-game road trip starting Monday in Frisco. Kent is schedule to make his final appearance with the Express then.
