Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Former Sidewinder Nelson Figueroa threw a four-hit complete game against Tucson Saturday night helping Nashville knock off the Sidewinders 6-1 at Greer Stadium. Figueroa struck out eight while earning his tenth win, tying him with Wes Obermueller for the most wins in the PCL.
Figueroa went 22-12 for Tucson in portions of the 1998, '99 and '00 seasons before being traded to Philadelphia in 2000 in the Curt Schilling deal.
The Sounds scored a run in the first off John Patterson, tacked on an unearned run in the second before scoring two in the third and two in the fourth.
Patteson suffered the loss in his return to Tucson, allowing six hits and six runs (four earned) in six innings of work.
The Sidewinders hit into three double plays, made three errors, allowed two unearned runs and surrendered five stolen bases to the Sounds.
Tucson's lone run came in the top of the sixth when Brian Gordon connected for a solo home run, his ninth of the season.
Sidewinders fell to 47-47. Tucson and Nashville will play the final game of the four-game series Sunday night at 4:00 p.m. (Tucson time). The game will mark the last contest in a 10-game trip for Tucson and the final game before the three-day All-Star break. Tucson's starter is TBA. Ryan Vogelsong (8-6 5.00) will start for the Sounds.
