Kemlo beats up on battered Indians
August 29, 2005 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Spokane Indians News Release
SPOKANE, WA - Yakima Bears (26-41) starter Chris Kemlo (4-7) came out of his month long slump in a major way, tossing the Northwest League's first complete game of the season in a dominating performance over the Spokane Indians (31-36) Monday night at Avista Stadium.
Kemlo, who had lost his last five starts, carried an 11.14 ERA in the month of August, but stifled Indians batters all night long. Spokane batters managed just seven hits against Kemlo with K.C. Herren accounting for two of Spokane's hits. Herren also provided the Indians only run with an RBI single in the 6th inning.
Prior to the game, Indians manager Greg Riddoch moved Tanner McElroy (2-2) to the starting rotation and the right-hander from Texas Tech University gave up three runs in 4.2 innings of work, striking out seven Yakima batters along the way. Brett Zamzow followed McElroy with 1.1 innings of shutout baseball before Juan Maldonado gave up four runs in one inning of relief.
The battered Indians lineup was noticeably absent Steve Murphy, Lizahio Beaz and German Duran, all three of whom are suffering from injuries and are expected to return to the lineup shortly. The also recently lost Phillip Hawke for the season after suffering a fracture to his hand. Hawke was reassigned to the Arizona Rookie League for rehabilitation.
With the loss, the Indians now trail the Tri-City Dust Devils by two games in the Eastern Division of the Northwest League. The Dust Devils rode the arm of their ace Shane Lindsay (6-1) to a 5-2 victory over the Boise Hawks.
There are only nine games left in the regular season and six of those are on the road. The Indians and Bears will shift their six-game series to Yakima County Stadium for the final three games of the year between the two squads. All three games can be heard on KJRB AM 790 the Fan or via the Indians website. The Indians return home for their final homestand of the season on Friday night for a crucial three-game series versus the Tri-City Dust Devils. The only way to catch pennant fever is to come cheer on your Indians as they battle for another Northwest League Championship. For tickets, please call the Indians Ticket Office at 509-535-2922.
