Yakima Valley Pippins News Release
YAKIMA, Wash. - The Yakima Valley Pippins were unable to complete a couple rally attempts Sunday in a doubleheader with the Kelowna, dropping both games to the Falcons.
Game one
After going scoreless over the first two innings, the Falcons put up runs in each of the next four innings against starter Darrion Simons and reliever Alhanon Miller. Both sides exchanged one run in the 3rd and again in the 5th, but the Falcons also added two runs in the 4th and two more in the 6th to build a 6-2 lead heading to the bottom of the 6th.
J.R. Davis made things interesting in the 6th with an opposite-field three-run home run to right field, bringing the Pippins within one run at 6-5. However, a rally in the 7th fell short and Kelowna held on for the win.
Game two
After spreading out the offensive attack in the first game of the twin bill, the Falcons did most of their damage in one inning, putting up five runs in the top of the 2nd against starter Andrew Bernstein. The Pippins rallied once again, with two runs in the 4th and two more in the 5th to close within one at 5-4. However, Kelowna's JJ Muno delivered a two-out, two-run single in the 7th to add insurance for the Falcons and reliever Alex Webb worked two perfect innings to finish off a 7-4 win.
With the doubleheader sweep, Kelowna (12-6) wins the series and takes over first place in the West Coast League's East Division by 1/2 game over the Pippins (13-8). Yakima Valley gets Monday off before heading to Bellingham Tuesday-Thursday for a three-game series with the Bells (13-8). The Pippins and Bells last met in the first round of the 2014 postseason. The Bells swept the best-of-three series. All three games will start at 7:05 pm from Joe Martin Field.
