Kelowna Rockets News Release
The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Red Deer Rebels 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday night in Kelowna, coming from behind to snap a six game losing skid.
Damon Severson scored the winning goal in the shootout while goalie Adam Brown stopped six of seven Red Deer shooters to give Kelowna the win. Shane McColgan also scored in the shootout.
After Friday's loss to Calgary, the Rockets bounced back with a solid effort on home ice, outshooting the Rebels 42-31 and controlling much of the play.
Despite that, Kelowna trailed 2-0 after the first period but took the game over in the second. Brett Bulmer cut the lead to 2-1 before Kelowna scored twice in the third period to take a 3-2 lead on goals by Damon Severson and Bulmer, with his second.
Red Deer however tied the game with 32 seconds to play, on a deflected shot from Matt Dumba that sent the game to overtime.
Devan Faford and Alex Petrovic scored first period goals for the Rebels, who also received solid netminding from Deven Dubyk.
The Rockets will now play five straight games away from Prospera Place, heading out on a four game road trip to Alberta before returning to B.C. with a home and home against Kamloops. The Rockets next home game is March 3 against the Blazers.
