Kelly Scores Twice, But Thunder Falls To Kings

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder lost 5-2 to the Mississippi RiverKings at the INTRUST Bank Arena on Wednesday night. Paul Kelly put Wichita ahead at 7:40 in the first on the power play. After a rebound opportunity from Joel Hanson, Kelly located a loose puck on top of the left hashmark and ripped it past the left side of Tim Boron. The RiverKings tied the game 57 seconds later on a power play goal of their own. Ryan Held crashed the net and was able to control a backdoor pass across the slot from Darrell Stoddard and tip it beyond the left of Ian Keserich. At 9:55, another Kings' power play goal gave Mississippi a 2-1 lead. Matt Summers redirected Elias Godoy's pass into the crease for the score.

Mississippi broke the game open with three more goals in the second. Derek Landmesser scored on a high slapshot just under the crossbar at 2:42. On a two-man advantage, Ryan Held slipped in his second goal of the night at 8:47, cashing in a backdoor pass from Louis Dumont. Matt Summers deflected Nate Schwartzbauer's slapshot past Ian Keserich at 15:01 to give the Kings a 5-1 lead.

Kelly scored his second goal of the game on a point-blank shot at 5:51 in the third.

Wichita managed the game very shorthanded at the blue line with Steve Makway, Mark Adamek, and JR Bria all scratched due to injury. Keserich was relieved in the second by Scott Campbelll after the RiverKings scored their fifth goal. Keserich saved 23 of 28 in the loss. Campbell saved 14 of 14. Tim Boron earned the win, saving 16 of 18. Joel Hanson had two assists.
