Arizona Sundogs News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - Skating in their 11th consecutive one-goal game, the Arizona Sundogs had a three-game win streak snapped in a 4-3 loss to the league-leading Odessa Jackalopes Tuesday night at Tim's Toyota Center.

The Sundogs have played in a league-leading 27 one-goal games this season and have dropped a league-high 18 contests by a single tally.

Sundogs Head Coach and General Manager Marco Pietroniro was ejected from the game with 4:16 to play in the contest after referee John McIsaac whistled the Sundogs for 18 minutes in penalties in a two-minute span, including a penalty shot that Doug Groenestege turned aside with a stick save.

Arizona opened a 2-0 lead in the first period with a pair of power-play tallies before Odessa responded with a three-goal second-period.

Mike Nesdill collected his second goal of the year 8:46 into the contest, ripping a slap shot from between the circles past Joel Martin. Matt Hanson assisted on the early go-ahead marker.

Marc Belanger stretched Arizona's lead to two with 2:41 to play in the opening frame, collecting a rebound at the far post and tucking it past Martin for his 21st point and ninth goal since joining the Sundogs.

Odessa cut the Sundogs' lead back to one early in the middle frame on a power-play goal by Mike Ramsay, his first point of the contest, at the 3:56 mark. Groenestege got a piece of the shot but the puck found its way through the netminder's blocker-side arm.

Collin Circelli tied the game at two midway through the second on his 27th of the year from Sebastien Thinel before the Jackalopes collected a lead they would fail to relinquish through the game's final 20 minutes.

With 6:21 to play in the second, Odessa gathered its second man-advantage goal of the period as Alex Dunn connected on a backdoor feed from Brian Swiniarski.

Arizona had a lengthy two-man advantage midway through the second but was unable to convert.

The visiting Jackalopes stretched their lead to two with their third power-play goal of the contest just over two minutes into the third period.

Dunn picked up his second goal and third point of the night splitting the Sundogs defense and finding the back of the net with a wrist shot from the slot.

Belanger had a breakaway chance a minute later but Martin denied the effort with a right leg pad save on the second-year forward's backhand.

Torren Delforte pulled his club back to within one at the 6:30 mark, all but securing the Sundogs 11th straight one-goal game.

Groenestege finished with 30 saves while Martin turned aside 32 shots. The Sundogs finished 2-for-9 with the man-advantage while the Jackalopes converted three times on nine power-play tries.

Linus Fagemo, serving a one-game suspension for a hit in Saturday night's 5-4 shootout win over the Wichita Thunder, was held out of the contest along with Kevin Gardner, who was placed on the 14-day I.R. retroactive to February 12.

Arizona continues its six games in seven days schedule with the first of two straight against the expansion Allen Americans tomorrow at 7:05pm. Tickets start at just $14 and are available by phone at 1-866-4-GET-TIX (1-866-443-8849), online at www.gettix.net and in person at the Tim's Toyota Center Box Office.
