Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (31-24) continued their hot start to the series against the Winnipeg Goldeyes (25-28) with a 12-5 win on Saturday night. With 3,441 fans in attendance at Newman Outdoor Field to celebrate the team's 25th Anniversary, the RedHawks combined for 15 hits in the win - six of which were for extra-bases.
For the 13th time this season, the RedHawks scored 10 or more runs at home. Five of those games have come against the Goldeyes. Catcher Dylan Kelly, who came into the game with only one home run so far this season, was 2-for-3 with a walk, two home runs, and three RBIs in the win. Right fielder John Silviano extended his hitting streak to 19 games with a solo home run in the eighth inning.
RHP Austin Ver Steeg (1-2) started in just his third game of the season but pitched like he'd been starting all year. Ver Steeg gave up one run on three hits and a walk in seven innings and got his first win of the season. RHP Luke Lind (0-1) replaced Ver Steeg in the eighth inning and did not allow a baserunner in his one inning pitched. LHP Mark Finkelnburg (1-0) finished out the game in the ninth inning, giving up four runs on five hits.
The Goldeyes didn't get on the board until a Jay Gonzalez solo home run off of Austin Ver Steeg in the seventh inning. Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the loss. Winnipeg then strung together five hits to score four more runs in the ninth inning. Raul Navarro (2-for-4, RBI, run scored) was the only other Goldeyes batter with more than one hit in the game.
Winnipeg started RHP Eduard Reyes (5-5), who allowed six runs on eight hits and four walks. Reyes struck out four batters in five innings and got the loss before being replaced by RHP Austin Henrich (0-0). Henrich allowed four runs on four hits in 0.2 innings. The Goldeyes then turned to LHP Ken Frosch (5-3), who gave up a run on two hits and a walk in 1.1 innings pitched. First baseman Kyle Martin (0-0) pitched in the eighth and gave up a home run to John Silviano.
The RedHawks moved to 31-24 on the year and will face the Goldeyes (25-28) in the third game of the series tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field. Fargo-Moorhead is expected to start RHP Gage Hinsz (3-2, 5.92 ERA) and Winnipeg is expected to start RHP Pete Perez (2-1, 6.23 ERA).
